Instructions

  1. Open bottom_svg (Firecracker) and resize. Break apart and delete the stars and the extra parts, leaving only the 2 circles and the cylinder. Regroup the cylinder to include score lines. Adjust the height ONLY of the cylinder to 11.5”h, keeping width the same. Place a 3.7”w by 3.5”h circle on the cylinder as shown in the diagram. Cut this and the two circles (you may want these to be different colors for the inside of the cake) and assemble.
  2. Open lid.svg. Break apart and delete the small triangle inside one of the circles. Regroup, cut and assemble. Place it on the assembled file from step 1.
  3. Open bottom_svg (Tall Cylinder) and resize to 11.6”w. Break apart, and regroup the cylinder file with the score lines. Adjust the height of the cylinder ONLY to 3.75”h, keeping width the same. Cut this and two circles, and assemble.
  4. Place the cylinder from step 3 into the circle opening of the cylinder from step 1. When you first insert this, you’ll notice that it’s loose. That is okay. Once you place this cylinder diagonally, this should fit perfectly. You will also need to insert this far enough to allow enough space for the glue to join. Adhere.
  5. Adding ‘icing’ to the cake. I used adhesive spray uniformly to the top of the cake. Sprinkle white glitter/embossing powder onto the cake. Let dry.
  6. Open curlies.svg and resize. This is for the cream swirl on the cake, and you will only need the 4th curl from the left. If you are aware of the software, you may delete unnecessary portions. Use scissors to trim off the excess swirl.
  7. Cut the rest of the embellishment files: holly, pine cones, sleigh, snowflakes, Santa, and deer. Assemble and adhere to the cake. Add trims to the edges of the cake, to add whipping cream feel.

Design Tips

Thienly - SVGCuts Design Team Artist

  • Study some cakes online to get an idea for colors to use. It is better to keep the paper simple but add texture. Adding patterned paper may take away from realistic-ness or the elegance of the cake. Glitter, metallic and embossed texture is recommended.
  • Add extra embellishments such as trims, enamel dots, and rhinestones can add more interest to the overall project.
  • Be creative. Feel free to add other cuts to decorate the cake.
  • Many of the cake topper items stand vertically up. It is not always easy to do for paper crafting. For items that wouldn’t stand up by itself, such as Santa, I adhered him onto the sleigh behind him.

This is a simple project to make, yet it looks very elegant. It’s a lot of fun to make and it ‘almost’ gave me enough confidence to attempt decorating a real cake! I hope that you were inspired by my project today!
