Mary's Corner - Dawn's Birthday Extravaganza

Throw the hippest birthday on the block!  I had my nieces in mind whose birthdays are coming up this Spring.  I made a birthday card for the special gal, an invitation to invite all her best friends, a favor box to make for everyone maybe with a cool necklace or bracelet inside, a favor bag with candies, a tag for the birthday girl's present, a funky banner and a Thank You card for thanking her friends for the birthday love.

As you can see, I ran a lot of this through our Cuttlebug, using the Swiss Dots, Argyle and Textile Texture folders.  It really adds a nice touch, especially when you lightly rub a brown ink pad on the paper surface to bring out the embossing.

Rubbing an ink pad around the edges of each shape takes some extra time and effort but it's really worth it and makes a subtle, yet big difference.  It adds at least 10 degrees of hipness.

Using coordinating paper all from the same pad really makes everything mesh well together.  I used a K&Company travel-themed pad because it was the only pad I could find that had the color scheme I was looking for.  Even if you don't use the exact same paper as me, I do recommend finding pre-coordinated paper, all from the same pad if you can.

Banner

  • For the ribbon, I used half-inch wide orange plaid ribbon from Michaels.

Birthday Card

This card is A2-sized, so for the envelope, use or create an A2 envelope and it will fit perfectly. There's not much contrast between the Collegiate Flourish and the card base. I added embossing, otherwise I would have to use a different color for the flourish or the card base. Sticky gemstones are a must in the middles of the flowers, of course.

Charlotte's Box

I used a simple version of our 3D Gerber Daisy flower and left off the small center parts and used a sticky gemstone in their place.

** Use as-is (with hearts instead of circles) or Break Apart in SCAL, delete the hearts and place circles from the SCAL Shapes Library on each scallop

*** Glue back-to-back with a toothpick in the middle to form the pick. Embellish with sparkly bling!

Invitation

  • In SCAL, place the two 3D single flowers on top of the scalloped rectangle as I have (see photo of card). They'll cut out of the scalloped rectangle and then you bend the petals up for more pop.
  • This card is A2-sized, so for the envelope, use or create an A2 envelope and it will fit perfectly.

Thank You Card

  • For the card base, weld together two ovals each sized 5.5"w x 4.25"h to form an A2-sized oval-shaped card. You can find an oval in the SCAL Shapes Library.
  • I embossed and inked the scalloped circle, otherwise I'd definitely use a different color since it's orange on orange.

Sweet Treat Bag

For the ribbon I used 3/8" and 1/8" ribbon from Michaels to tie through the buckle. I think this is SO cute and looks like a Flower Child headband.
