R.I.P. Colorbox Cat's Eye Ink Pads - Here’s the Best Replacement I’ve Found

I’ve always loved inking the edges of my paper shapes—especially for cards, box panels, and flat accents. That soft, smudged edge just makes everything pop. So I was majorly bummed when Clearsnap shut down and took Colorbox Ink Pads with them.

I tried other options—daubers, firm ink pads, even brushes—but nothing gave me that same soft blend with easy control.

What I'm Using Now

After a dry spell, I found these Color Petal Ink Pads on Amazon. The brand name varies in the listing, but the lid usually says “Color Petal.” They feel nearly identical to my old Colorbox favorites—and the color payoff is gorgeous.

My #1 Favorite Color Petal Set: 1004

My top pick is Set 1004. I think this one’s the most versatile and comes in handy in lots of neutral situations, for buildings, floral things, and even Fall and Christmas.

The gray can also be handy for Winter, but mostly the dark brown is going to be key.

My #2 Favorite Color Petal Set: 1025

Favorite Set #2 for me is Set 1025. This one is sort of an extension of #1, since it has variations on some core neutral colors.

Having this set opens up a wider selection of browns, greens and adds two blues and a black.

My #3 Favorite Color Petal Set: 1022

My #3 pick is Set 1022. This one screams “Fall” with its dark, moody palette and rich, rusty burnt orange and selection of dark grays and blacks.

This should be super handy in the Autumn months, and for Thanksgiving and Halloween.

They're Holding Up Well

I’ve had some of these for over a year now, and they’re still working well. I’ve never “re-inked” an ink pad, but I’m thinking it could probably be done with these. They seem quite similar to the old Colorbox ink pads that I used to love.

Let me know what you think!
