Hi Crafty Friends!
Today I was putting my Lighthouse project on display for the Summer in my craft studio, and I thought it would be fun to take some new pictures of it! Especially to get some more close-up shots of it so that you can get a better look at it!
It's one of my all-time favorite projects. 🙂
It's from one of our well-loved SVG Kits, the Seaside SVG Kit.
Unfortunately, the paper collection is retired. It's the By the Sea Collection from Graphic45. But! I've noticed that they've brought back some of their popular paper collections, and I could see this being one that they'd potentially bring back and sell again some day!
But like I always say, whatever paper you decide to use will look great too! 🙂
I've seen lots of you post YOUR photos of your lighthouse project, and they have all been incredible!
This one was fun to embellish with brads, bling, buttons, and star-shaped embellishments.
I had fun embossing some of the panels with the Sizzix Notebook embossing folder, which I use quite a bit when I want the look of "siding." Or should I say "shiplap!?" I tied some twine around the bottom that I had laying around from Home Depot.
This red part lifts off so that you can put an electronic tealight candle inside.
I put some battery-powered LED lights inside that I got from Amazon. They're neat - you can change the color to 12 different colors. They come with a remote control and they're pretty inexpensive, but they drain their three AAA batteries pretty quickly. You could light it up with whatever your preferred battery-operated LED lights may be. The light inside always adds a really nice effect. 🙂
The vintage seashore look of this takes me back to high school when I read the novel To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf. My English teachers back then (Ms. Gutierrez and Ms. Lang) really made everything come alive for us and incorporated History and Art History into English class. I was into it, and it made me think.
The roof of the little house lifts off, and the top half of the Lighthouse lifts off too, so you could give it as a gift with something inside. And of course it would be an amazing gift in and of itself! It would be hard to part with, though! 🙂
My mom likes to change out her seasonal decor, so after Spring is winding down, and after Patriotic Summer season winds down, she puts out some colorful nautical decor for Summer. She would adore getting one of these from me! 🙂
Maybe closer to August I'll make this for my mom using the Voyage Beneath the Sea paper collection from Graphic45 that I have had for a while but haven't used yet. It's so rich and colorful, and it would be fun to add a LOT of sparkle. I think any seaside/underwater themed project looks great with lots of detail and sparkle heaped on it, like you've discovered a pile of seashells and shimmering pearls. 😉
Thanks for taking a closer look at our Lighthouse project with me!
