Christmas is so exciting – why not count down and enjoy every day of it? Who wouldn’t like the idea of getting something to remind them of the big holiday? For this Design Team project, I put a twist on the Classic Christmas Advent Calendar SVG Kit and combined it with the ever popular 3D Letters SVG Kit!

Instructions
- Letter Face – Open the Classic Christmas Advent Calendar SVG Kit and break apart/group the doors separately for days 1, 4, 11 and 15. Save. Copy door 1.
- On a new page, open the letter M that you need from the 3D Letters SVG Kit, adjust to the correct size, and paste in the door 1 in the bottom middle. Save.
- Repeat for the rest of the doors as shown in the diagram. If there is a door that is used more than once on a certain letter, you can copy and paste. Cut.
- Do this for the rest of the letters.
- Compartments – open the Classic Christmas Advent Calendar SVG Kit and break apart/group the compartments separately for days 1, 4, 11 and 15. Keep the same width, but adjust the height only to match the depth of the 3D letters. Cut all the compartments.
- Doors – Cut.
- Assembly – You will need to trim off the folding tabs (for both compartment and letters side tabs much thinner to fit the space. Try to keep the areas where it’s not necessary to trim the tab at its full width. This will keep it more stable when gluing. Glue the compartments first and then the letter sides.
- Fill the bottom portion of the letter with a heavy weight material and then finish off the letter by gluing the back. Mary has a great video on the assembly – (put a link to the video)
- Add the ’front’ of the door, add dates, and embellish as needed.
Design Tips

- Pick a style/theme that you’d like and stay with it. Don’t try to add so many elements – it can become too busy. If you work with a certain paper collection – pick out the colors off from it.
- I inked the edges of the letters and some of the embellishments with a similar ink color of the cut outs. It brings out the elements enough without adding too much.
- Don’t be intimidated to use embellishments in place of an SVG. For example, I added pearls inside the poinsettia, used twine instead of ties for the car, and buttons for berries. Adding a different element gives a character and dimension to your project.
- If you’re thinking of using different elements, cut out all the elements that you need, make sure that the colors and the size of them balance on the letters before gluing all of them down.
Wouldn’t this be so fun to open them with your kids every morning? Don’t be intimidated from this project – all you need to begin is the Classic Christmas Advent Calendar SVG Kit and the 3D Letters SVG Kit to begin. The rest is up to you! Try making them with different words, or even make one to countdown to a birthday or even a wedding! Have fun!
