I had requested this set from Mary quite some time ago and she delivered! A friend of mine had severe reconstruction surgery on her hand, so I am giving her a CD and a gift card to Starbucks for some Java. So, I set out to jazz up one of those ugly CD jewel cases and create a box to put it in. Hope you like!

Instructions

  1. Cut the files for the CD box.
  2. Cut all the square pieces for layering on CD box. Ink edges.
  3. Emboss top layers if desired, I used the swiss dots folder.
  4. Adhere layers together and then assemble box, it is easier doing it this way, then trying to do it after the box is assembled.
  5. Cut and layer all the pieces for inside the jewel case. Ink edges and emboss if desired.
  6. I used my computer to print the tag and sentiment. The narrow strip measures .375 x 4.25. Adhere this very near the edge so you will be able to read it through the front of the jewel case.
  7. Carefully take out the piece in the jewel case that holds the CD and put in your element that goes in the back. Replace the plastic piece you took out. Careful so you don't crack it.
  8. You shouldn't have to use any adhesive for this step. It stays good.
  9. Slide the front element in so it goes under those little plastic tabs that would normally hold your CD art and lyrics.
  10. Adhere your decorative elements to the front of the jewel case, on the outside. Your other pieces are in the inside, although I guess you could put those on the outside too.
  11. Don't forget if you want to use twine to wrap it around before you stick your elements together.
  12. If you are going to put this jewel case into the CD box, you won't want to put dimensionals under your elements, it may ruin trying to slide it into the box.
  13. Use ribbons and buttons if desired.
  14. I used my crimper on the cupcake wrapper and a bit of glitter on the cupcake top.

Design Tips

Cheryl Becker - SVGCuts Design Team

  1. Inking and embossing always makes a statement. Take the time to do it, your project will definitely look better.
  2. Go easy with color. Be sure they coordinate well. I usually go with only 2 or 3
  3. Designer papers are always nice and you can pick accent colors from the design.
  4. I'm not a big fan of seeing the tic marks for scoring. You can use them or not. The score lines on this piece are at half inch intervals, so if you choose not to use them, that is where you would score.
  5. I'm a white gel pen girl, so you may see some on everything I do. And there is some on this, lol!

How many times have you given a CD or DVD as a gift? I know I have a lot. Why not jazz it up and make it extra special? This Summer Blockbuster set is a must have! Pick up this set and you will always find a time to use it. I hope I have given you a bit of inspiration with this project. I'd love to see what you come up with. Cheryl 🙂
