I wanted to create something that was simple, something that even a newbie to SVGCuts.com and SCAL could take on! I love giving little treats for the holidays and anyone would be thrilled to receive one of these treat boxes! My kids went crazy for these! I've included the recipe for anyone who would like to make these cake balls. Or, you can make miniature cookies, Oreo truffles, etc. Not too great in the kitchen? Buy some yummy treats to fill up your boxes!

Design Tips

Glittery paper, 3d glue dots, glossy accents and a little embossing go a long way! Texture and dimension help the cuts to really stand out. Add glossy accents to the paper 'frosting' and hearts! Super cute! Attach a tag with to personalize!

Directions

  • First, I cut out all my boxes. I used the plain scalloped lid for these. Score and fold. I really like to use Wonder Tape when making any 3d items. The tape allows you work fast without having to wait for glue to dry. I used the 'Sweet' collection from DCWV for the printed paper. The glittery and solid's are also DCWV (found at Michaels or Joanns).
  • Cut your paper ribbons and secure them to your boxes with glue or Wonder Tape.
  • Attach all your cut outs with glue and 3d dots (or 3d foam squares).
  • For one of my boxes I used some heart shaped brads from Joanns. They match perfectly!
  • If you are making these to hold cake pops, you will need to get some styrofoam and paper gift basket stuffing. Cut your styrofoam to fit snug inside the box (2.5" x 2.5" and about 1" high. Add some hot glue to the inside of the box to be sure your styrofoam won't move. stuff in a little gift basket stuffing (I used paper crinkle) and then you're ready for the treats!

Cake Ball Recipe

Tamara Tripodi - SVGCuts Design Team Artist

What you need:

  • 1 box cake mix of your choice (or make cheesecake!)
  • 1 can of frosting (No frosting if using cheesecake)
  • A package of lollipop sticks (I used Wilton)
  • Some decorative sprinkles (Wilton)
  • Decorative mini baking cups (Again, Wilton brand)
  • Small shaped cutters if you'd like (Wilton)
  • Candy chips to melt down (Wilton -- surprise, huh?)

Directions:

  1. Bake the cake according to box directions. Once it's done, dump it out into a large bowl and break it up a bit. Make sure it's cooled or your frosting will melt and make it too gooey!
  2. Mix in half a container of frosting. Once you mix it well set in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
  3. Once the mixture firms up a bit roll it into balls and put one of the lollipop sticks inside. Lay onto a plate with wax paper and freeze for 30 minutes. If you want shapes, roll mixture out to about 3/4" thickness. Cut shapes, add sticks and then place in the freezer for 30 minutes.
  4. Melt your candy coating as directed on the package. Dip your cake pops, add sprinkles and enjoy! They are frozen so the candy will set pretty fast so work quickly if you want the sprinkles to stick!
  5. Get creative! Use a decorator bag and add dots, stripes, text, hearts, squiggles, etc!
  6. Enjoy!
